Have a 494 told was a 1957, Have a 494 traced to 1958, a lot different. Also a 1959 494 and a 494A that I think is a 1969

I think 494A's/694A's started in 56'or57'? not sure, but they were replaced by the 1240/1300 in 68',which I here were not as popular as the previous planters. Mine has dry herbicide and insecticide attachments, don't use them so It's kind of bulky and harder to store. I also have 21 different sets of metal and plastic plates for it.

My JD book does'nt go into much detail but they were introduced in the Fifties(probaly late). It also says that over 10,000 were produced beetween
64'-67',so I guess 67' was the last year for them. Pretty common planter around here.
