Dad has an old NH supper 77 baler sitting in the woods, I pulled it out a while back and tried running it. Everything worked except for the knotters. Can a guy get used knotters for it? Where is a good place to look? A junk baler might be a good investment, since this could use a little help in the pickup head. Great-grandpa bought it new, and it would be nice to fix up and pull with the W4, which he also bought new. The first pieces of equipment on the farm.

Matt I have a 76,77&super 77 balers and the knotters were rusted took them off and rebuilt them the frames are a little different where they are bolted down at but the other parts are the same as the newer balers probably all you need to replace is the twine disc and the bill hook and the twine holder these parts are available through New Holland and don't let some inexperienced parts man tell you different you can not buy the complete knotter but you can buy the frame and all the parts and put it together your self also replace all of the springs I have a lot of parts for these balers but I don't want to sell them now because they are getting harder to find. Hope this helps

When you say the knotters don't work, is something broken? Or they didn't tie when you tried?

Complicated as a knotter looks, it's really nothing more than a big crochet hook. Take the shaft off that holds the knotters and work on it off the machine (you'll have to take it off anyway if you replace them). Check for any broken gear teeth, make sure all the springs are in good shape (there are at least 7), make sure things move freely. Sharpen the knives, set the timing and tension. Unless they are damaged or really rusted beyond repair you can probably get them working. Great-Grandpa would be proud of you.
