Has anyone come up with a good way to keep the gripping part of tire chains from slipping down in between the lugs on the tractor tires? Mine slip down in there no matter how tight I make them and they are all but useless.

A neighbor made a modified set of duro-link chains by putting a large cold shut link between two adjacent cross chains. The first to the left of center and then the next to the right of center. Worked much better ans not too costly.

Might be worth a try.

Look at the picture of the "duo-grip" chains.

Chain links or loops bigger than the lugs on the tires will work. I have seen farmers remove 2-3 links from the bars and replace them with 2 four-six inch rings (together, not linked like an 8). Not cheap to do, but does work.

Tends to eat your tires though :-)

There are versions of chains that have chain linking the bars together. We have a set of these on our loader tractor. Works better, but they still break loose.
