PTO Connectors, Critical Operation Angles

I am designing my 3PH and would like to
know the maximum angles that each universal joint
(2) can tolerate without excessive thrashing. I'm talking about the double jointed
connector with the square telescoping slip rod.

Blue Light: The angle may vary with the amount of power transmitted. Max Mis-alignment of a belts etc will vary somewhat with total power going through the system as the critical angle is approached. harvey

Much appreciated. I get the strangest looks
going thru the old tractor sales places with
my measuring tape and paper in hand. The old
lady in the bungalow across the street from the sales yard ready to call the cops. I have found the internationals had a very
high top link and a low PTO. The ford 8,9N had long lift arms and low PTO with a very high
lift about 30In. My MH comes something in between. Guess I'll
have to eyeball it and keep the 45% angle in
mind. Thanks a lot!.

A single U-joint(universal) can make a 45 degree bend. But this is the maximum.

A CV-joint(constant velocity) can bend up to 80 degrees. A CV-joint consists of two universals with an aligning block between them and a special type of yoke. This all being at one end of the PTO shaft.
