I need to both spread material on and level a field. The material will be dry, organic with clay and sand content. I need to build a wheeled, towed dragbox of sorts that can be pulled with 35-50 horse tractors. Can anyone post pictures, drawings or give advice on how to move 10,000 yards with a homebrew machine? the distances are 250 feet plus. I haven't found anything locally like this. Thanks!!!

IS IT 10,000 CUBIC FEET OR CUBIC YARDS. IF IT IS 10,000 CY YOU WILL NOT HAVE A TRACTOR LEFT IF YOU GOT DONE IN YOUR LIFETIME. I REALLY BELIEVE YOU HAVE 10,000 CF WHICH IS 370CY. IF THIS IS THE CASE A D6 OR D8 DOZER COULD HANDLE THAT IN ABOUT 1.5 DAYS. I AM NOT FOR SURE WHERE YOU ARE, BUT BELOW ARE SOME AVERAGE PRICES FOR OUR EQUIPMENT. YOU SAID YOU HAVE ABOUT 250 FEET TO MOVE IT. THAT IS REALLY TO FAR TO PUSH WITH A DOZER AND BE EFFICIENT.

621 SCRAPER $ 145.00/ HR
D-8 DOZER $ 125.00/ HR

DEPENDING ON WEATHER, SOIL CONDITIONS, ETC..... . TEH ABOVE COMBINATION COULD MOVE ABOUT 2000 CY PER DAY.

Faced similar problem a couple yrs ago,ie moving ancient manure/black dirt mound appx 200x50x6-8H
and spreading it around homesite. After looking it
over and considering all options available found it cheaper by far to hire local construction outfit w/cat and trailer scraper at $85hr in their
off time(slow days/evenings).If I recall right it
took appx 35hrs(billed time)or around $3000.I couldn't have bought or built an efficient rig for that.

Wish I would have known those prices back when my uncle had his manure hauling day! Four neighbors came over with our spreaders & spread his pile (about that size) in a day - we worked for 2 beer breaks & dinner. He ran the loader, his little International really got a workout. My uncle often got blisters from the hyd levers.

Carl- I to am searching for a scraper. Need a 4-8 yd elevator type,4 wheel towed, hydraulic control, needed in Western New Mex. We used to use A big Atlas float. It was a manufactured item, 4 wheel rear-2 wheel front(they cranked up and down for transport),.The outer frame was very heavy i-Beam, 18" high- 10" wide, 3 even space cross braces, 4even corner braces. The front and rear pieces were slightly short to allow high material to pass under(-8"). It had an adjustable height center blade to catch the material. The center blade was about the same height as all the rest, 2-3" clearance on each side. It was very big, 30 ft long- 8.5 ft wide. We towed it behind a 1900 Oliver 4wd. If you made up a 16'x 7' your 55 horse tractor should suffice. Dont even need wheels at that size. Could haul on a trailer. Put grader blade on the bottom of the I-beams..Andy
