Loader broken?

OK. My second day using my first tractor and the loader goes down and won't come back up. It's a 1956 MH 50. There is a push/pull "switch" in front of the seat. Pushed in operates the loader, pulled out operates the 3 pt. The 3 pt. works fine, push the switch in, the loader refuses to respond. What do I have - broken seals? some other leak? a bum switch? low fluid level (not according to the dipstick, but)? gremlins? Any thoughts will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

THIS WORKED!!
Mark: Before you change your valve from three point lift setting let hitch down about half way, then change the valve to work loader, now put your three point lift control lever all the way to up and this should make the loader work. Keep in mind that any time the three point hitch is all the way up the pump stops pumping oil, this will probably correct the problem. Don Snyder member of Friends Of Massey collectors club

I have the same type set up. Maybe the valve under the seat got stuck for only direction to the 3pt. When you push it in for the loader, see if the 3pt will raise and lower. If so, stuck valve.

Could you have accidently changed the position of a valve other than the "Switch" and not know it due to a lack of familiarity with the "New" Tractor.

A question I oten ask myself is "What were you doing just before it broke?". I normally get my answer after troubleshooting for days!

Good Luck!

I don't think so. I was just driving along with the mower on the back cleaning up the field. I haven't seen any other valve. I did get the operator's manual but it has no info about the loader. I'll keep looking. Thanks.

Will it lift the 3-pt with a load? Sounds to me like a fluid problem. You may have air in the lines or in the pistons which will need to be bled out. Put a guage on the pump outlet and check your pressure...should be about 1000 to 1500 psi. Also, check your hydraulic filter...could be clogged and not letting the fluid (which your dipstick says you have enough of) flow into/out of the pump.

The 3 pt. raises and lowers my 5 foot mower with no trouble. That's what is the most confusing part. One end works, the other doesn't. Appreciate your input. Thanks.
