I am looking at buying a JD 14T baler. I bail 12-15 acres twice a year, so it won't get a load of use. My question is I've heard this is a good baler, and I'm just curious what some of you who own them have to say. Anything in particular to be concerned about with this particular model? The seller wants $225. and it's cosmetically in decent shape.
Thanks,
Dave

That's what I gave for mine while I had it. Worked okay. We were putting up 500 to 1000 bales a year for various critters.

You might check out the knotters to see if they're reasonably tight, and maybe get somebody with some more experience to give their opinion if possible.

If you get the thing, be sure to get the owners manual and parts book. Keep the knives sharp and adjusted, keep a handful of shear pins handy and always use fresh twine and you should be good to go.

The frame on these balers can bend under the the flywheel, causing the clutch housing to rub. Seems to be common on 14T balers that have heavy wagons towed behind them in hilly ground. My grandfather's had developed this problem near the end of its lifespan.

Dave, I know a bachelor buddy of mine has had one for over 30 years, and hasn't had a lick of trouble, except for replacing the slip clucth ( which i hear goes out alot if on a two cylinder tractor, becasue of the PUT PUT) and he had to have the notter fixed a year or two ago but other than that he has had no problems. He bales about 30 acres a year with his. If you are looking for a operators manual I have an originial one from deere that is from an auction ( estate ). Well I hope this helps, Matt
