I have recently found a JD model 802 all steel running gear. Does anyone know anying about these? How rare is it? It is in excellent shape but does not have the box with it. I have almost finished the restoration of a 1929 GP and thought that this would be a good implement for this tractor. I would like any information on the running gear itself and/or the correct box for it.

John Deere 802 All Steel gear was introduced in 1931. Key feature was the "auto steering", which makes for a short easy turn. By 1936, Deere had introduced the 952 Rubber Tired Wagon. Some info is available in: John Deere Farm Equipment 1837-1959 by Don MacMillan, and also the book John Deere Buggies and Wagons by Ralph C. Hughes. Both can be obtained from the John Deere Commons store or thru an online bookstore. ( I picked many a load of rocks in one of these wagons, hope you never have to use it that hard!!)
