Could someone help me identify which planter I have. From what I can gather it is a 540 or 543.
It has fiberglass fert and seed boxes. It has plastic plates in the bottom of the seed boxes. It has plastic lids for the fert boxes and metal lids for the seed boxes. It is a pull type with disc like ground openers prior to the seed drop and rubber compactor wheels after the seed drop.
The serial number is 71888. I have been unable to find a model number. Thanks to anyone who can. help me identify this old planter

I would like to thank highboyford for his help with my Oliver 4 row planter. I now have an operators manual for my 543 Oliver. I also think, after reading most of the message boards at the yesterdays Tractors site, that the people who patronize the Yesterdays Tractor site are absolutely the greatest! This site is now my most favorite site on the net. It provides a wealth of information. Also thanks to dwm.

The 543 has lugs on the base casting of the grain hoppers to help seat the fiberglass hoppers.
Depth gauge wheel attachments have sealed bearings.
The 543 should have a 3.5 inch square tube frame.
The 543 also came with fluted colters but a option was offered latter to retrofit 540s.
Check your hopper bottom (or plate numbers) for a number that ends with a "b" as in 246689b this would indicate a late series hopper and most likly a 543.
