A local dealership has a New Holland 311 hayliner for $4200. I know they were made between 83 and 88, but I was wandering if they were a pretty good baler or not and if this was a fair price. It did seem to be in good shape but I really just glanced at it so I'm not for sure. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

The 311 baler was one of the best balers New Holland built for small operators. (under 10,000 bales per year) We bought ours new and have baled well over 50,000 bales with total repair costs to date of under $200. Just keep your windrows a constant size and you can make perfect bales every time. I've done over 400 bales per hour with this machine and wouldn't ever get rid of it.

I wish I could say the same, Mine lets the twine slip off the bulhook when I start to bale. I got mine use with no manual, any Ideas on how to resolve this ...

a 311 is a very good value. it has nearly the same capacity as a 315-316. the feeder is new holland's best in my opinion. very durable. slightly narrower pickup than the larger machines. price sounds a little high but great little machine.

C.C. We have worked with a couple of older NH balers and have had good luck with them all. The price on the 311 seems a little high. I missed getting one at auction last spring for $1600. I think $2200 woud be a lot price in this area. The NH dealer in this area is great, stocks lots of the stuff you need and knows what he has got. Hope this is of some help to you, good luck. 150 days till we start haying. Roy
