I am trying to decide on whether to buy a woods or a bushog brand 60 or 72 inch finish mower. I need something that is especially good on hilly ground (no scalping) and something that is easy to service. Does anyone have experience with these mowers and a point of view?
Thank you!

Bill, i bought a landpride 72 inch in march. i could not ask for a better built peice of equipment. i have cut some pretty high grass and several baseball size rocks, and it has preformed flawlessly. i to looked at the other brand. i choose this one based on the local cities use (if a city employee can't distroy it, it's pretty tough) and the local dealer's rep. landpride.com is the website to check out online. as for the discharge issue i was going to order a rear model but bought a side model FD72 due to a sale on last years models. i would not own any other brand. and if you compare the price to that of a new riding mower their not too high. i mow eight acres of pasture land with mine, no cows, each week the only other mower i own is a small push. the side discharge DOES NOT windrow the grass even when wet, i was suprised. just leave that grass deflector off.

Whatever brand u get try to get a rear discharge one, it spreads the grass out and doesn't pile it in a windrow

We have 2 of the 6' Woods here and they don't have a gear box. These have a thru shaft and pulley on each blade.

What I like about these Woods is that the shaft has an upper and lower bearing that only cost $4 each and the belts cost $55 for a complete set. So a complete rebuild is only about $79 and only takes about 2 hours.

I don't think Bushhog has anything for less than $100 not even their information. We have Bushhogs too and it cost alot more to keep them going than it does the Woods.

Bushhog finish mowers and their frontend loaders both have too many non renewable flex points. Woods has bushings you can grease and adjust. Bushhog has no bushings so when a flex point wears down you have to cut and weld new pins and plates in it.

the type of woods mower you are describing is, I think, the one I have now. It has the vertical 'pyramid" on the unit which houses the big pulley wheel. This mower has been a nightmare to fix -- it breaks all the time, the pulleys snap off the spindles, etc. This is the mower I'm replacing, because with only about 500 hours on it I'm told it will now cost $1400 to fix -- I can almost buy a new one!

This spring I bought a Servis-Rhino FM 60 finish mower and I am very pleased with it.It has the front roller to prevent scalping. I mow 3 acres with it and have sloping and uneven land. Very easy to service, very well built, and made of heavy steel ( compared to other mowers I looked at). You might want to check out a Rhino.
