Looking for help. I have a Ford 9N and a Ford 960 tractors. I need a good sickle mower. I have a Dearborn Model 14-93, I understand it's the same as the Ford series 501, and it's too heavy and difficult to mount alone. I need a easy to mount, parts available mower. My hay fields are small so a haybine is not practical plus I mow under fences so a trailer type, that can't be backed up, is not workable either. I am located in East Central Minnesota and would purchase the right unit. Thanks to all for your input, and advice of availability.

Hum, I'm by New Ulm, I have a 960 & a 501. Good mower. I'm not sure there is anything easier to mount? At least after we got smart& replaced the spring bolt with a pin & springkey. Is your difficulty hooking up the upper arm? Just take the bolt out of the top of that big spring, and then it is easy to hook up. When all hooked up, raise the mower, put the bolt back in, & you are ready to go.

Otherwise, I'm not sure where you are having difficulty?

I have a John Deere #9 that my aunt gave me. She used to use it behind a 8N and I use it behind an 850. I can hook it up by myself, but it takes some grunting. Easier than trying to tell the wife or the teenage son what I want done. The mower is old and I'm inexperienced so the cut I get ain't the best, but I expect it to improve once I figure out all the adjustments I should be making. I saw another JD #9 sell on ebay about 8 months ago for $150. I spent $100 getting mine working again (auntie had lost the driveshaft). Until I have a lot of money to blow, it'll do me fine.
