I am looking at an older snowblower. It is essentially a big scoop about 4' across that feeds the snow into a flail beater. I recognized the manufacturer...but have forgotten it right now.
The guy is asking $200 and says it works well. Has anyone ever used a gizmo like this? I do not have live pto but I do have a 12speed transmission so low-low is almost a creep...

The guy who has it doesnt like driving backwards otherwise he said he would keep it.

I would mount it on a ford 1500 4x4 20hp

thanks for any info

Thanks for the information....very valuable.

P.S. Now that I see the name I recall that it was an ARPS

The one I have and use is an "ARPS" and the scoop opening is closer to five feet. It takes a 60 HP tractor to make it work right. I believe you would be happier with a single stage auger type or even better a two stage, designed for you tractor. They not only will do a better job for you, but since they are more efficent, you do not need that much HP. I have a very large, long and hilly drive way. For most snow falls here in Minnesota, I use a 16HP JD with a single stage auger, rather than the ARPS.

My uncle used to make them out of old silage blowers & a steel water tank. Work ok, but not so good in wet snow, or hard snow. Not that any blower works well in these tough conditions...

They bring about $50 or so here in southern MN.

I used one for years but you had to drive ahead. It got the snow moved but only side to side and in certain types of snow, like wet and heavy, it was just that, a big scoop. The simplicity was good, but for $200 around here, you can pick up a good 6 foot Mckee Econoplow auger blower. The scoop types go for about $20 to $50. Allied had a reversible scoop type. Workable, but limited. Good Luck
