Motts mower

I've used an old Mott F6 for several years now, and I've been very happy with it. It does a nice job on grass and fairly heavy weeds. For the heavy stuff, like saplings, I still use my brush hog. The knives I have are about 1" x 2-1/2", connected to the shaft by a D-shaped ring.

Flail mowers need a lot of power. My tractor, a Ford 4000 (4 cyl), has about 45 PTO HP, which is about right for a 6 ft. mower.

Parts for these things are unbelievably expensive, so be careful what you try to mow. I hit a stump last year and bent the roller. The replacement from the local Mott dealer was over $300!.

Most of the parts are available from Montage (see link below). I've had fairly good luck with the stuff I've bought from them. Their stuff is not made by Mott, but it is a little cheaper.
