I have never owned a baler. I have a chance to get a NH 270 from original owner - everything seems to work, and he has the original manual. Is/was this a reliable model? Any cautions?

Dad bought ours very slightly used before I was born, we've put ~5000 bales through it for around 40 years. I can count the parts it needed on one hand. Not counting the time the timing chain broke & we didn't bother retiming it (BIG oops). Missed tying one bale in 600 so far this year, it caught a ball change right on the knotter.

If it's in good shape & you want it, should last you for a long, long time.

In my opinion the 270 is a good reliable baler. Was it working when it was last used? Where has it been stored (inside or outside)? Being a one owner, they should be able to tell you the history of the baler (how many bales per year, past problems with baler, what parts has been replaced). I have a 268 which is almost the same baler and have run 1000's of bales through it with very few problems. If the price is right I would buy it.
