Could anyone tell me why my bailer looses the twine from the knotter when it changes from one ball of twine to the next? We are using the square knot that we have always used on the IH 37 bailer that had befor we bought the 24t. We also are trimming the ends to about 1 inch so there is no loose ends at the knot. The bailer ties great and makes uniform 50 LBS bales all day long. We use a hay basket instead of wagons and if you dont catch that it lost the twine right away we end up with a mess.Any ideas will be helpful, thanks ,Bill

Tim, the hay basket is really great. It lets us bale a lot faster than when using a wagon. We have one right now and are thinking of getting a couple more to keep the baler running more steadier. I would recomend a basket to anyone who bales hay.

i saw in farm show magazine where someone made a basket out of lumber which was a lot cheaper. does the basket cause misshapened bales?

We get maybe 2 or 3 crooked bales but all it takes to fix them is lean down or push ypur knee into them to straighten them. Really no prob in that department. Where did you see the wood basket? I would stay with steel. It will last almost forever . By using mobile home tires and axel parts and shopping around for the steel,I think we had no more than $750 and did not need any fancy tools, just stick welder, mig welder and cutting torch and saw. I believe it holds about 80 bales. We didnt put extensions on it like some of the factory ones because we dont have that far to travel from the fields to the barn. We took some pictures last week and if I can figure out how to post them I will put them up, Bill

I use a sheet bend knot in my 336, but I use plastic twine. Check the tension on the twine as it exits the box on the baler. Could be the knots are getting caught as they try to come out of the box.

Leave about an 1 1/2 tail on your square knot. Untwist the twine next to the knot and tuck the tail into the twine. Works ok unless the machine tries to knot on the Knot.

I was once acquainted with a fellow haymaker who would roll the knot back and forth between his flattened palms several times after he had already done everything else you've already described. Seemed to work.
