NH 88 Bailer Help

I bought a NH 88 baler last year. I put about 1500 bales through it. One side of the bale seems to be much looser than the other. I have the operating manual and tried adjusting the bale pressure and the forks as suggested.

Anyone know what the problem is and how I might correct it. One string keeps coming off making it hard to handle.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Thanks Dave(ne), I made a mistake, the baler is a NH78.

I didn't move the feeder tines very far, I didn't have the right tools in the field. The next batch of hay I bale, I will take the correct tools and make larger adjustments, hopefully I can get it working.

Thanks again.

Mike

This will also happen if you aren't feeding enough hay into the bailer. You should have good sized windrows, and let it eat. The problem can also arise if the hayknives aren't sharp or aligned properly. Does it cut the hay clean?

The bales are ragget. I am in the process of removing the knife to sharpen it, looks like it also has a few chips in it. Can I sharpen the knife with a grinder, or do I have to have professionaly done?

I will check the alignment when I put it back in.

Thanks for the information.

Mike

Don't know, I've never had to sharpen a set myself. BTW there are 2, one on the ram and one on the side of the chamber. Good luck.

That problem has to do with the feeder fingers adjustment which I assume is what you mean by the forks. They are either putting hay too far into the bale chamber or not far enough depending on which side of the bale is loose. When you adjusted the forks did it change the bale at all? Maybe you have to make more of an adjustment to see if the bale shape changes. Also make sure you have all the hay dogs installed and the springs are not broke.
