I'm also repainting a potato harvester(digger) my grandfather bought it used in the late 40's,
it was completely rusted then according to my father. After searching a while I found web page with "paint committee decisions" for 1924 -1954
Link

I have a digital picture of the unit I'm working on if your interested.

We had a IH potato harvester that was yellow, best I can remember it was almost a CAT yellow, with black on some of the siderails that held the conveyor sprockets. Don't know what year ours was, I was born in '57 and don't remember us getting it. My guess would be '55-'60

Ours was a big two-row harvester, had a gas engine and an operator seat, pulled by our M, with platforms for several workers to ride on it (picking out rocks, etc) so it may have had a quite different paint scheme than yours.
