Sometimes trying to shove a little too much hay through them will do that. At least, that's been my experience with a Deere 14T and a NH 66 and 68.

In addition to the comments about getting the manuals and the mentioned things to check, you might also be sure the twine tension going into the needles is where it ought to be.

Most problems with a Deere baler can be fixed by replacing the upper and lower haydog springs. These dogs hold the compressed hay in position during the return stroke. Missed ties, broken bales, malformed knots, etc are often the result of these springs being weak or missing. Also check to make sure the needle brake disc pads are applying enough force to hold the needle frame in position. Finally, every baler is occasionaly going to "miss" a bale --1 in 500 is normal depending on the conditions.....

The best thing to do is get an operators manual. It shows the entire operation of tying step by step and also how to set everything up. I have a 14T and I had to turn it over by hand and check each step of the tying process. After resetting several things it now works really good. There are so many things that can cause this. Good luck.
