Having problems with knotters on a 124 Massey baler that don"t seem to want to release twine off the duck bill when we use sisal. 9000 Poly which looks smaller in dia. always seemed to work ok.
Our supplier quit carrying poly last year and this is what he says to use. It is unmarked, but it is large dia. is and "supposed to be" 9000.

I have polished everything and released some spring tension off the cord grip parts, but twine still knots up on the duck bills and eventually breaks leaving knots on the bill hooks and busted bales.

What would happen if we use 12000 twine, like on the roller, in one of these so we don"t have to purchase 2 different kinds of twine? Will it break?

Thanks; Tom S. in Tn.

Go straight to TSC and get their twine, never had a moments trouble outta it. Bought some Clover brand green twine last year from one of the local feed stores when TSC was out and neither my 124 or my dad's 124 liked it. Had issues with it and won't buy that brand ever again. But with the TSC twine we have virtually no problems. What part of TN are you in?

A family friend of ours has one of those 124 balers. Used to bale close to 10,000 bales a year with it. I'll tell you this, that darned baler would not work with sisal. This was years ago and I was a teenager at the time but I remember him asking my dad (who is pretty good with getting the knotters right on just about any baler out there) to come over and try to get sisal working in that machine and they just never could get it going right. Best they ever got it is it would break about 1 out of 10. Same deal the twine would hang on the billhooks. They switched to plastic and their problems went away. I honestly think that Massey designed that baler to only work with the plastic twine or a very consistant sisal twine. If the plastic worked I recommend switching back to it. No need to reinvent the wheel to be honest.

I have similar problems with my MF10 baler, which is now my emergency reserve baler. My problem manifests itself on the first 20 bales and then again as it gets late in the day and the moisture goes up a little.

Let us know how you resolve your problem.

You might try loosing up the bale tension on the baler as well...it might help some

I've found with mine that if the twine is of poor quality that it you will have problems tying and releasing the knot. in fact the manual states to use top grade twine, mine has never worked using poor twine. 12000 twine won't work as the Massey balers make a tighter bale than others, you might try getting some other twine and trying that, I've found that the twine from TSC works the best compared to the other brands that I've tried. Also make sure the it is the natural color and not the green stuff....this can cause problems as well. I have a manual and can copy it for you if need be

Thanks. The twine is green and is rather ratty looking and not slick at all.
I did snap a shear bolt with baler last year too trying to make compact small bales.
I rec'd a Massey operators manual when we got this baler, but thank you kindly for asking. You have provided enough info to get me a place to start.
