JD 495A planter charts

Were there any charts on the manual for this planter that gave the seed/fertilizer rates for the different gears on the shafts? I don't have my manual yet and should try to get the corn in the ground this weekend. If someone has them and could scan them & email them to me I would be extremely grateful.

Thank you all for the info. I do have the 3-speed gearbox with two sprockets on it and 3 above. I think I am going to leave it set where the last guy used it and test it on the driveway for spacing. The fertilizer drive hase 4 sprockets over 3 & my dad looked at it & told me which sprockets he thought he used when he had one 20 years ago. I don not have any idea which augers are in the fert. tanks.

As as last resort, for the seed spacing, you can put seed in the box, not lower the planter, shift the drop mechanism in gear (it's been a long time, and I do not remember exactly how to do that) let it drop kernals on the ground, and measure the distance between kernals, and adjust the spacing accordingly. Hope this helps.

There were 2 different types of drive used on that planter and you need the operators manual for the type of drive you have. Does it only have sprockets and chains or does it have a gearbox in there as well, if the gearbox then the manual for the plain 494 without the A would have the charts you need. The gearbox setup was the first style with the chain and sprocket the later style.

Thank you Leroy for your time. My planter has a gearbox for the seed drive and chains for the fertilizer. I am not sure if there are different sprockets to drive the gear box. I will have to check in the morning.

On the gear box there are 3 speeds coupled with 2 different sprockets on the gear box plus different sprockets on the shaft that drives the gear box. The Fertilizer is only different sprockets. If you know the row width you are planting (They will plant from 28" to 42" rows), the number of cells (16 or 24) in the plates that you will be using and the number of kernals you wand to plant I can look up the setting. On the fertilizer they used 3 different rate of feed augers and the rates listed in the 494 book are not correct for todays type of fertilizer the rates in the book for the newer 494A planters are close to correct.
