Anyone know if a gas Ford 641 can run a 6" finish mower without overworking the tractor. I believe the tractor was rated 32 HP when it was new in 1960.

I have been running a 7 foot finish mower with my 8n for several years. Though if the grass gets ahead of you (too high) you can have problems. You can always cut less than the full width if it gets too high. Keeping the blades sharp helps also.

Sharp blades versus OK blades are a difference between night and day on HP requirements. That 641 should have a lite load, it is allways nice to have a mower the width of the tractor. If it struggles then sharpen the blades.

I've ran a 9 foot with a 45 horsepower diesel tractor and it bogged it down pretty good in 8 inch stuff. Using this tractor setup as the maximum, If you cross multiply you get: 32hp times 9 foot, divide product by 45hp equals 6.4 feet of mowing capability for your 32hp ford. SO in effect, your ford should run the 6 foot finisher in 6 inch grass or less.

I run a 6 footer on an old 2N. Just mowed for the first time last weekend. Some places had to be about 8 inches long. Bogged her down good but never totally stalled her out. And she's definately not in like new condition.
