Ended up with an older kuhn disc mower. Is there anything I should take apart and check (gears, seals, etc)? Sounds good when running. Also, I see where the oil check plug is for the gearbox, does the shaft/arm share the same oil or where do you check/add that? Is 90w gear oil right for both areas?

Use 90 wt EP gear oil. Any brand as long as it says EP (extra pressure). My disc mower was new in 1985 and it is still going strong.

NO. Check and change the bar oil and gear box oil on a seasonal basis and run it till it blows. When you look at how much work is involved in disassembly of that bar you'll not be inclined to take it apart.
The level plug is about 18" up the bar when it's standing vertical. The drain is at the bottom. Look through the hole in the skid shoe. The gear box is drained from a hole when the bar is upright and then lowered to check the level on the same hole. Check the bushings on the lift pivot (on the gear box) for wear and replace as necessary, maintain the PTO shaft, the skid shoes and check the outer end of the bar for wear, probably on the leading edge as the pans will wear through and leak. Otherwise, so long as the discs are tight (bearings are tight) run it until it stops.

Is it a GMD 600? If so I can look tomorrow to be for sure as to what grade oil. My mower and manual are at my dad's. Skid plates are $41 each if you need them, had to replace all 6 on mine when I got it.
