Now for the choice-Round Baler for 40hp part 2

Thank you all for the suggestions!
I have located 2 that were mentioned on the last posts.
1 is a mid 90's Hesston 530 for $4700.
The other is a mid 80's NH848 for $4500.
Both Hydraulic tie, both in basically the same shape.
We don't need to do bales any bigger than 600lbs give or take.
We can do with smaller better than bigger bales.
Pulling with a 4000lb 40hp PTO tractor which would be best for the money?
Is one higher upkeep costs? Harder to find parts etc.

I have a Krone Baler and it is exactly what you are looking for. These balers are very trouble free, made in Germany, easy to get parts that you won"t need anyway, and you can do thousands of bales.

Kijb you need to call J E Stephens at (304) 372-5200. He specializes in small round balers and will have just what you are looking for. He travels in Ohio and should be able to deliver a baler for you. Ask for Aaron Stephens he is the owner and will find you a baler if he does not have one on his lot.

I don't see the 848 as an option for the power you have. I've run an 848 a few times on a 60 hp tractor and that worked it pretty good to make any time with it. You might turn it with 40 and make small bales, but you won't make time with it. Some of those belt balers would likely take a good deal less power to turn than the 848.
It's not worth near that much either but lots of dealers ask that for them here. Some get it too, but there are better balers out there for the money.

Both those prices are $1000-2000 high in our area. Maintenance, care, usage may make a difference but both those machines are old, parts may not be READILY available. Parts here in two days aren't what you want to hear with hay on the ground.

Of the 2 choices I'd go with the 530, New Holland is phasing out parts for the old chain balers. Have you check tractor house or AGCO's machinery locator? If not i'd check there first before I bought anything. Hope this helps.

I have checked tractorhouse. The only ones were 6500 and 5500.
The $6500 is a 2000 in nice shape.
Maybe I should be looking at older square balers.
We could use either.

Both balers you mention appear to be over priced by at least double, particularly the 848. Unless it is totally reconditioned with new chains and bearings these are $1000 balers at auction.

For $4000 you should be able to get a mid 90's NH 630 with autowrap.

Here in Ohio I can't find anything that cheap.
Are you in KY?
I don't have the time to go to an auction.
Unfortunately.
I'd love to find one in that price range.

I am with Kyhayman. I see 630"s in Pa all the time in the 4K range. The balers you are looking at are way over priced. try going to www.lancasterfarming.com. Newspaper from mainly Pa, but has ads from several states.
