NH 848 Apron Chain - Droopy on One Side

The apron chain on my 848 baler is hangs lower on one side than the other when the tailgate is raised. The chain sometimes falls off the bale forming cam when ejecting a bale (it hops back up on the cam when the tailgate is closed). I looked in the maintenance section of the manual but it doesn't mention anything about this situation. Could this be caused by uneven stretching/wear? Any ideas on how to correct the problem?

Have you counted the number of links? Maybe you have one or two too many.

Wouldn't go around more than a couple times like that- the 2 chains would be attatched by cross bars and they would be bent & twisted pretty quick if one side had 1 too many links.

I've got an 849 and the darned thing had jumped a tooth on one side.

If that wasn't the weirdest looking thing when it ran. :>)

I hear ya. Once in a while the apron on the manure spreader jumps on 1 side (mainly in the winter when it freezes to the sprockets) so it runs crooked. Normally doesn't twist anything when it's only 1 off, but more than that and the slats start to get all bent outta shape...

Sounds like you have one forming cam that is hanging up and not coming back out after the bale leaves the chamber.

Either that or that big chain has jumped a tooth at the drive sproket on one side or another.

Fix it, or else that big devil will be leaving the machine the hard way. Ya really don't want that situation!

i'm not sure if yours is doing same as mine but check the pivots on the top front where that fork looking deal rocks back and forth...i cant remember rite name for it...the bushings pulled out of my 851 and caused one side to be loose till it finally broke off completely.
