I sort of inherited this beautiful machine four years ago and named her Mary Lou (from the song "Hello Mary Lou, Goodbye Heart"). Only logged about 15 smooth, uneventful hours ('cept for a jerky hydraulic pump), when I must have had a mid air collision with a mosquito heavy loaded with West Nile virus. A month later against all odds I awoke from the comma, could move my right arm and things above my neck (nothing else), and I thought I heard both Mary Lou and my human lady friend whisper in my ear "promise not to die and we'll show you a good time!" Four agonizing years later I am able to crawl up on the seat, fire Mary Lou up if only to listen to her throbbing heart and smell her naturalness. On my level 1 1/2 acre I inch her along even though my left leg is still a bunch of phys therapy away from the clutch pedal. She is a major player in the inspiration for survival and a miracle rehab., and I include her in my plans for what's left of the future. I am educated but do not speak farmish so I can only guess at what to call all those things you drag along behind a tractor. Hence this appeal in the "impliment forum" for an educated choice of equipment and a knowledgeable and wise purchase. I want to renovate a large lawn area with lots of gopher art, and do weed control,leveling, clod pulverizing on adjoining 3/4 acre bare corral (when I am physically ready). I take risks like any ordinary alpha male, but a daily prayer includes "don't let me do nuthin' dumb". Mary Lou's dowry came with a two blade plow, a 12 disc plow, and a 10 tine spring tooth harrow (just learned how to say that). A functional PTO (aware of the hazard). I need help with "what, where and how much" as well as nomenclature. I just purchased a new hydraulic pump and have assurance of mechanical help with that project ... Mary Lou will think that I have applied a trans-dermal testosterone patch on her! Can someone help with what sort of transmission oil (fluid) is recommended these days to use with an old tranny and new hydraulic pump? And anyone out there that that would volunteer info on a three point hitch log splitter using tractor hydraulics? I can pass th is bit of information along ... the world is full of gracious, humble people ready and willing to help when you really need it.

A good weldind fabrication shop would be a good place for you to see as a good shop could make a hand clutch conversion that would work in conjunction with the foot clutch and give you extra chances to control; stop; the tractor before you get hurt on it. Don't take chances. there are companys out there that make conversion kits for farmers with a dissability and do not consider that it is not you. In time you may get back to normal and could take that hand clutch off but do not take chances.

Thanks, Leroy ... good thinking and advice. I know just the shop. Not much finger control but reasonable grip and arm strength (left). Is a hydraulic assist feasable? I am currently negotiating with the VA hospital hand control driving school. The last car gas tank I filled, price was $1.78 per gallon.(I think). Unable to drive a car is not a good thing iether.

Sorry about your illness, hope your recovery goes well. You could post on the Fergueson Forum for your questions also.
Don't know about oil, but if someone dosen't tell you on here you could call a Massey Fergueson dealer and ask.
On the log splitter, I don't think that tractor has enough hydraulic pressure or volume(gallons per minute or GPM) to run a log splitter. Also, you would need a remote valve attachment which would be pricey if you don't have one.
You have enough equipment to renovate a yard if it is in good shape. A 3ph scrape blade would be nice especially if you are in the snow country. "Gopher yard art" I like that expression. Glad we don't have gophers here, but we do have fire ants. At least you can take target practice on the gophers.

KEH Thank you for your response and the well wishes. In the short "get aquainted" time with Mary Lou, I was able to convert a relatively smooth weed filled corral into deep troughs and giant clods with the afore mentioned impliments. IS your insinuation that I need a tractor driver, not a tiller, cultivator, or such? I frquently drop a drive wheel of my electric wheel chair into a gopher hole. You made me appreciate gopher art compared to getting stuck on a fire ant hang out!
