Dad owns the land - I own the equipment. What is a fair exchange for hay off this land. I have paid fert., seed, lime, and all expenses. Any help will be appreciated.

Neighbor Ernie has 15 acres of grandson Jeff's land in hay. Ernie will get around 230 square bales per acre or around 3,400 bales. So he lets Jeff plant on 33 acres across the road for no rental expenses to Jeff and of course Jeff gets the proceeds of winter wheat, soybeans or corn that he grows.

Dido here...Im in the middle midwest Dad has about 20 for hay. He owns land I own the equipment. We figured on a 60-me 40-he split. Or itleast thats what we always did with sharecropping with an outsider in the past.

Around here if you have the equipment and pay for fert and do all the work it's a 2/3 you, and 1/3 land owner.

When I used my dad's land I just went ahead and halfed the bales with him.
I could have bought hay cheaper from somebody else than I could bale my own, but pop needed the hay, and I liked him.

1/4 to 1/3 of the hay. Value at going price on local market. Or rent field at a set price per acre.
