I just bought an older international planter. I would say it is 70's. It doesn't have a skid plate to level out the soil, so the place where the seeds drop, get clog alot. Any ideas to fix the problem would be aprreciated. Thanks!

In one of my IHC planter books I looked at it doesn't even show them, the book is for a 449 & 450 planters printed on 6-30-58. Now in my Deere books they call them a guage shoe for use in extremely soft ground conditions. Have never seen a set in use but I do have some I got at a neighbors estate auction out of his junk pile that I hope to some day put one on a planter for shows as a novility as around the midwest area they would not work

I've got a IH 56, 4 row planter that it kept clogging up. I took the tube out that the seed go thru and cut them off about an inch. Haven't clog since.

I thought I knew all the things I don't know, but what is a skid plate on a planter?

Saw a pic of one around here a week or so ago - Think that"s what it was anyhow. Never in my life saw anything like it, my clay soil would have fun sticking to that! Big sheet of steel about where the wheels would be on a JD 7000 planter, kinda like a combine bean header might have to skid on?

Darnest thing I saw, would be scrap metal "here". Neat to learn all the different ways of things.

Make skid plates for it.
