If you are trying to run a MF 12 baler and the haybine off 1000 rpm don't do it... You will most likely destroy either machine. Like I said before look at the manual and see if either can be changed over. I doubt the baler can be and I highly doubt the haybine can either.

"Could it work"? Maybe..... ....in the short term. The engine speed is gonna be MUCH more critical; would only be a matter of time before you over-revved it and started slinging parts. Would I do it? NO WAY!!!!! Unrelated, but true; my Dad bought a new A-C "72" All-Crop and a new MF "50" to pull it with in the late '50s. The "50" made 540 at about 1600 rpm (can't remember exactly) and the tractor didn't have quite enough 'oomph' to pull the machine. My uncle ran the thing in return for us picking his cotton; he'd pull the throttle back an extra 200 rpm or so and pretty much shook the combine apart before the first crop was harvested; swapped it in on an "E" Gleaner after a couple of years.

Yes there are adapters for this. Don't know that I would feel comfortable putting a lot of power to one cause it extends your pto shaft by 8".

We used to do it on the manure spreader with great results. Only had to run the tractor half throttle. When you think about it a spreader doesn't take much power to run but a big tractor to hold the weight.

The el cheapo adapters don't last very long if you pull heavy loads with it and are hard on pto joints if they come off. My 4630 jd only has 1000 pto so made up 1000 shafts for baler and disc mower and run at half speed. Usually pull baler with 1155 mf and mower on jd. Overkill I know, but that is what I have.

I used to use an adaptor to run the feed pump on a NH3 nurse tank to hurry the fill along.

Worked slick in that instance, but sure can't think of anything else that it would work on.

It just about doubles your speed.

Depending on the impliment you're asking for nothing but trouble but you have to look. I know some of the old John Deere spreaders we had all you did was swap two spockets around throw an adaptor on the shaft and it was good to go as far as 1000 rpm operation goes. Alot of the NH discbines are swappable from 540-1000 rpm inputs. You just have to turn the gear box around on some of them. Check the user manuals of whatever it is that you're trying to run at 1000 rpm, there might be a way to properly convert it.

reid: Sure there is an adaptor, but you still best keep the speed on most implements below 650 RPM. You start operating most 540 implements at 1000, you may find yourself launching parts in space.
