JD 336 Square Baler general opinions wanted

Local dealer has two JD 336 balers for sale, price seems reasonable ($3500) and they seem to have migrated south from a Canadian dealer. Are there any inherent problems with the 336? Both of them are missing a few pickup tines, but have been field tested by seller.

I've never heard a bad word about them. I dont know how little hp it takes to run one but if i could afford one i would get it. of course i have wondered how the newer ones or ones with a wider pickup work. Are they just as reliable?If you can afford it then it might be like a kid in a candy store. I remember my old 14T and how tempermental it was . I could tell when the time of the dew fall was by when pins started to shear. lol but even it was a great baler for the money and my size farm.

I'm not sure what they rated them for, but we run our 336 with a ford 5000 (about 65hp). The new ones they sell now are rated for 35hp minimum.

I agree with all the other posts thus far. I am currently using one on my farm and I love how well it works.

Some things I would check (I'm assuming they have a pan kicker on them) would be the wagon hitch to see if it has broken free or the bale chamber to see if it is twisted.

The pan kickers are nice (also dangerous if you aren't careful), but they put a lot of strain on the bale chamber. Just think of the torque that's generated when the pan kicks a 60 to 70 pound bale to the back end of a wagon. Multiply that by who knows how many bales and problems can start to pop up.

One of the best balers ever made by anyone. I can't help with pricing though. Condition is everything with a baler. Prices should reflect condition, more than anything else.
