Looking at 3 different round balers, all "budget"
level. Will use a JD 5510 tractor, think it is 80 hp.

Choices:

Vermeer 405 G $4500
MF 450 manual tie $1500 (looks to have leak on a hydrulic door cylinder)
case/ih 8440 electric $3500

Will be baling fescue and ryegrass mostly, maybe some alfalfa but most of the alfalfa will probably be square baled.

Looks like you are buying the 4x5'a. 80 hp is plenty for that; more than enough.

Around here Deere and Vermeer are the top sellers in rollers.

The 605 G vermeer balers were a cheaper model of the F I don't know if its the same with a 504 G or not if it is the 504 G is priced way too high compared to what they bring around here. I sold my old 605 F in useable condition on a consignment sale it brought 5-600. Lee

my mistake on the model. It is a 504 super G.

The case is the cleanest of them and I think it is an 89 model. It's at a dealer (although about 5 hours from me) who said it's a trade in and the others are private parties. Dealer said they checked the case out in the shop, so I think I'll try to get that one.

Just wanted to be sure I wasn't picking from any a closed throat feed, or a 1000 pto model (my tractor is 540), or one that's known to have issues - Appreciate the help!

The last full production year of a 504 Super G was 1986. If that baler has rubber mount teeth it will be an 1986 model. The 504I balers came out in 1987. The 504 Super G is still a good baler choice for you.

FYI the Vermeer 504 is not closed throat. Closed throat balers have a roller at the back of the pickup through which the hay passes. Earlier Vermeers had this, don't know the model numbers, but they are before the F models.

From your post it sounds as if the MF may be abit on the rough side,I would pick between the other two depending on how far it is for you for parts and which one is in the best condition.pd.

I think you mean a Vermeer 504 G. If so, I think the price is way too high.

I don't know about the MF baler. Some of them were made by Vermeer and the manual tie ones are old, possibly 1970s.

I would try for a baler made at least in the late 80s. The makers had them pretty well designed by then.

Don't know about the Case.
