Front-end loader, front tire considerations?

I have a small front end loader on my ford 850, and have to replace one of the front tires. I'm pretty new to this but in my reading I had a hard time finding an answer. Are there special tire considerations when you have a front-end loader on a tractor? I would think so because of the weight, but would I not be able to use the 6.00x16 tires that were supposed to originally go on the tractor?

ok ford guy, i'll tell him i use any old truck tirees i can find on my ford back hoe. you get tired of buying good tires and driving up on nails or getting thorens in them cleaning out a fence row and you start to learn to get by cheap. i've found they hold up better for running on the highway with too. i don't have a big trauck and trailer to haul my back hoe on and generally don't go off very far with it any way and can usuallt drive to the neighbors quiker than i could even think about hooking up a trailer and tieing the hoe down any way. so i drive up on a piece of brush thats been cut off and ruin a front tire. used truck tires in 16 are fairly ease to find and with a ery little bit of tread left they do fine on my back hoe. looks isn't every thing. get-er-done is

I would go for the highest ply rating you can find. If you want a low profile tire, I put a new set of 26-12-12 10 ply made by Carlisle on my MF65 with a loader last year. We also baled 4000 squares with the same tractor last year, and these tires have been great. They can take as much weight as I can put on the loader with no handling or bulging problems (which the previous 6 plys had), and did not suffer any punctures (stubble or otherwise) during daily heavy use over the course of the summer.

i put a set of round baler wheels/tires on my '62 Ford 2000...about all i use that tractor for is shredding but it sure is nice to be able to go thru soft spots...i got a buncha "gopher sand" down here...when ya get stuck...ya GOPHER HELP!
cant recall exact size but must be 12" wide on the ground...beats tha he** outta them 5.50x15's that came on it.

I have a ford 841 with a heavy loader on it and I use 235RX16s on the front. Bigger foot print helps keep it from sinking into soft ground etc and works real well when I am lifting my 2000LBS hay bales. I'll never go back to the smaller size tires because when I had them I was getting stuck a lot plus they would not hold up as long

On my MF-135 with MF-236 loader, I went from 6.50-16 to 11.00-16 wagon tires on 8" wide rims. Gave me a lot more front end floatation in soft ground with a 6x6' round bale on the loader (took lots of weight on the rear to get traction). The wagon tires were gentle on hay, but slid a lot in dirt when cultivating or rotary hoeing.

I moved that loader to my JD 4020 and moved the tires and rims too. Eventually I got tired of the poor steering, and went to four rib 11.00-16. This was a lot bigger than the 7.60-16 that came on the 4020, raised the front axle several inches, but holds up the loader and the tractor front just fine. And kept the tires from catching in plow furrows when disking. That should have been easier on the front spindles, though the tire centers are further out than the originals.

Depends on how good your tires are, how much weight you put inthe bucket, etc. Wider tires would help keep the front end from sinking into the ground and can (usually) carry more weight, narrower tires tend to steer easier (unless they're sunk into the ground!) I stayed with the original 7.50x16's on my 4600 when I added a loader, but had to upgrade to 8-ply, as the 6-ply didn't last with the extra weight on them. (much harder use than what yours will see - I handle 400+ high-moisture round bales every year, about a ton each.) If it was me, I'd stay with the 6.00x16's, but go with a 6-ply, or 8-ply if I could find one for not much extra money. 6-ply should do OK for a tractor/loader that size. Someone will probably tell you to go with a wider tire, maybe a used truck tire... but I like to stay with original size and a tractor-type tread for their steering ability.
