I want to get a set of single row disc ridgers to attach to the rear tool bar (2") behind my 140. The only manufacturer I can find is Howse in MS. Theirs has 2 gangs of 3 discs that are 16", 18", or 20" (or a combination). I want a combo with 18" on the bottom, 16" middle, and 14" on top.

I can't find any manufacturer other than Howse. Does anyone know of another manufacturer or were I can get a set of used ones? Does anyone else use ridgers to make single rows and if so, does this combination sound about right. I'll place a want add also.

Thanks in advance.

Terry: Around here we get items like that from Lilliston or Bush Hog, or we did as recently as two years ago. They have 3 and 4 blade units. I have some of their literature, 30 years old and they list addresses as Albany GA and Selma AL. A guy about 5 miles from me uses those and he got new ones two years ago, even gave name of a local dealer that sells them.

After reading your post a couple of times I think what you are talking about is what was called a disk cultivator. It had three sets of disks like you are talking about with each one being a little smaller. My Uncle had a set he used on the front tool bars of our 140 to make the beds, kind of like a hiller would do.

Maybe this on the cub is something like your talking about.

Thanks Super-A!

That, disk cultivators, is exactly what I'm talking about. People around here call them 'Ridgers' for some reason. A single disk is called a 'Hiller'. Local slang I guess.

I need to get a copy of that manual.

Also it looks like a disc combination of 20", 18", and 16" should work. I think it would work for potatoes as well.

After I make a row I open the middle with a middle buster, add fertilizer, and close the row. I only have a single gang on the front tool bar which I use to make one side of the row per pass. i.e. 2 passes in opposite directions makes 1 row.

From what I remember was he used them to make a raised bed for tomatoes, cantalope and watermelons after he had ran over it first with a disk. It makes the perfect bed for planting most anything.

I guess it would work as a hiller but we never used it for that.
