JD 3 bottom hydraulic plow ID

I have a JD 3 bottom hydraulic lift plow. It would be an early model plow. The top beam is approx. two inch square in size and runs the length of the plow over the moldboards. It has 15 inch spoked wheels. Bottoms are rusty but showing very little wear. What would be the model number and approximate value? Marv

Thanks for all the replys. I really appreciate it. I'm a IH guy and I'm not familiar with JD equipment. Some back ground on this plow. I saw an for sale ad for a IH hydraulic plow. I called the guy and he was sure it was an IH hydraulic plow...just what I was look for. I hook onto my trailer and drive 70 miles one way to buy it and bring it home. Well, much to my suprise..and his there was JD stamped on the wheel hubs. Not much paint but so not much help there. After spending two hours time and $25 on diesel I decided I may as well haul it home. The bottoms are in excellent shape but the tires need to be replaced. Now that I'm the proud owner i would like to know the model number of this plow.

Fairly sure it is a JD 55H. Thanks to all for the help. You guys are great. Marv

Marv , the range of value has a lot of variables - location , over all condition , type of bottoms , condition of tires , with or without cylinder , etc . Around here a rusty 3 bottom pull type plow in usable condition seems to sell for between $100 - $350 at auction depending on if the cylinder goes along with it . ...Randy

I just measured my 66H, it has a 2"x2" solid square bar over the moldboards. On my 55's , I had 1.5x1.75 (3x14") and 1.5x1.5 (3x??).

The 66 had a rear tail wheel bracket cast #G723*,, sorry,, missed the last letter. On the 55 with the 1.5x 1.75, the tail wheel bracket had the number 717 on the cast piece.

My 66 has an 18" spoke wheel on the left side, but it is hydraulic lift only.

It would be a 55H, there was no 55ABH plow, but there were three versions of the 55 series built. They were so similar they were labeled "55A-B-H" meaning each was ONE, either a 55A (12 or 14inch rice plow clutch lift), 55B (12, 14 or 16 inch dry land plow clutch lift) or 55H (same as a 55B but with hydraulic lift and depth control). So to be correct the 55 series plows should be referred to as "55 series", or by "55" and one letter for a specific plow. And yes, there was a plain 55 (no letter) produced before the letter plows. 555 plows were a newer version with disc wheels instead of spokes and roller bearing wheels and sometimes trip standards.

My dad had a 555 plow, he bought it because it had trip bottoms, your post indicates not all were trip bottoms, can you ellaborate?

Thanks for catching that error. I thought I remembered an option on the standards but it shows in the parts catalog 1956-1958 used Regular trip back standards, and 1958 on used an "Increased Trip-Back front standard." So it looks like all the 555 plows had trip standards of some type. I do not know what makes them (the standards) different. Bob

Gary, No need to be sorry for catching an error, I would rather know the facts than not. I think a person should be responsible to be as accurate as possible when making a statement to the "public." And, I learned something.

Think No. 55ABH and not 555 as that is a later plow with I think a box beam instead of that 2" bar
