Hay Rakes and Hills

I've been told several times that a 2-wheel rake (hey, its what I have and the price was right) is USELESS on hills.

Can anyone explain why this is so? Or are my hill country friends pulling my leg?

Here are some of the more mild hills. I wouldn't necessarily use the H on these hills - and I will be careful!

Problems wheel rakes have on hills is limited to pull behind rakes. An in line wheel rake is supposed to drift down hill when going across the slope of the hill. I have a V type wheel and it dosen't drift. In you set up, the entire H tractor would have to drift sideways which it won't. IMO it would turn over before it would drift. Your pics are not showing any problem hills anyway, but you said you had steeper hills.

As wide as those windrows are a two wheel hay turner isn''t wide enough to flip the windrow, a three or four wheel would be better.

In the picture I don't see a hay rake, ALL I see is a windrow turner as that is all 2 of those pinwheels are wide enough for

I've never heard that, but I've also not used wheel rakes that much. I would think they might have trouble if you are trying to rake the hay uphill on a steep slope, but I judging from the pictures, I don't think you should have a problem.

Maybe someone who's delt with these rakes more than I have will know better.
