Don't know what this is and was wondering if someone can tell me if it's useful or should just be scraped. The axel turns but the tires are completely shot.

It's a John Deere with a serial number of 31-2363 That's all I know.

If the other individual (Dean in Iowa) doesn't buy the crimper, be sure to at least keep the pto drive mechanism connecting the crimper and #9 mower. I've seen several inquires looking for these items, so they should be easy to sell. If you don't want to remove them, advertise the crimper and the #9 as a package and let the buyer do the work.

Saw one sell at an auction in PA last weekend, brought over $100, but I've seen others bring less than $20, depends on the crowd I guess.

You know what, on the top of the mower, there's another short PTO shaft in the same color that I just figured was a spare but perhaps that actually went with this mower to make the "train".
This is great finding out about all this stuff. I wish I could use it but unfortunately, farming days here are long past. Just hoping this stuff can find a new home to be used vs junked.

Thanks for replies..... I found a JD #9 sickle bar mower out near it so maybe it was used in conjunction with that.

I would say that he bought them at the same time, and check that mower again to see if there is a PTO shaft out the back, if so he probably pulled both at the same time, if not he had to make 2 trips, one with mower, then a second with the conditioner

It's a hay conditioner. Use it after you mow with a sickle mower to speed drying time. I think #8 mowers could be set with a pto shaft on rear of gearbox and a hitch and pull both at the same time. Some JD collector might want it. Chris

It is a JD hay crimper. I would be interested in it. Where do you live? Send me an e-mail. Thanks
