Seed Firmers

I am thinking about putting seed firmers on my planter this spring. Anybody have these on their planter? How do you like them. The planter I want to put them on is a 5100 white. I am surprised that most of the after market planter attachments are not available for the 5100 white any more.I'm not even sure if I can get seed firmers for this planter. Everything seems to fit 6100 and newer planters. The early seed firmers clamped to the seed tube with a hose clamp & tie strap. I've heard that this can distort the seed tube and effect seed spacing. The new ones have a bracket that they use to attach to the planter, which could affect the availability for older planters. Any advice you can give me is appreciated.

save your money. Put another set on Kinze takes drilling 64 holes. Seen them after couple years use busted cracked etc. Forget about them

I bought a Kinze planter about 6 years back. It had Keatons on it.

Some fell off over the years and I never replaced them. The rows with or without the firmers were unidentifiable when the corn came up.

Save your money. I would never buy them again.

They are bound to drag some of the seeds and screw up the spacings.

Now if I were looking for a way to place starter in the row then I might use them.

I have them on a CIH 900. Supposedly they press the seed into the moist dirt in the bottem of the seed trench. I guess the only way to see if they help would be to plant some with them, some without. As they're not easy to get at, I don't think I'll do that.
