New tires on a JD trip plow?

I am getting a super deal on a 2-16 JD trip plow for a guy down the road. It has the original paint and has great moldboards and rolling culters. The problem is the rotten tires on it, really rotten. The rims are in great shape so that's good. The question is as to how do I go about getting new tires? I am just looking for functional tires, not show tires. Can you put old car tires and tubes on those rims and will they work out OK?

If you mean a plow with a mechanical - pull the rope - lift, you probably want a tire that has a pretty good tread to grip the ground, and lift plow. That"s why they put tractor tire treads on plows and other ground driven impliments. Note that tire tread goes on backwards, compared to a tractor tire. Have seen some use snow treads, orof road tires, even tire chains.

If your plow has hydraulic lift, most any automotive tire will work. Put one on a plow this week - since wheel was old and rusty, used a tube.
