years ago jd was so concerned about this problem that they made a motorized planter demo model that you could put your seed on and turn it on and see what happened. they would first size the seed you have to the size of plate that they thought you should use. does any body remember seeing this info in either two cylinder or green magazine?

I take about a quart or so of seed and put it in the hopper and turn the planter by hand. Use different plates till I find the one that works the best. U can narrow it down by are the seeds flat or round. And if they look big or small.

Need to know the seed size. MF,LF,SF,LR,MR,SR and so on.

If it is not on the tag you may have got a plateless grade which will be a problem with a plate planter.

Ok , I get the idea, Since I already have the seeds I will have to take different seed plates to find the one that works the best with each verity of seeds I have. I am going to jack up my planter to test run a number of different plates to just see which one works the best. I have several sets of plates for round and flat corn seed, thanks again.

Usually the plate size is on the seed bag.
