New Holland 650 Round Baler Questions

I have just purchased a New Holland 650 Fastwrap round baler. It also has the twine tie, wheels on the pickup, the large rubber wheels to feed the hay into the pickup, a bale kicker, and the in cab monitor " Bale Command " . I have always square baled, never rolled. Any helpful tips would be appreciated. I plan to take it to the NH dealer to have it checked out. Thanks for any help! Tom

Well, if you hold my bottom roller still you can turn the top one almost a quarter turn. I have already removed that strip and the gears look to be pretty worn. how do the rollers come out? If it really takes 3 people, I hate to think what the dealer would want to change them! Thanks! Tom

It's a 3 person job. Open the tailgate and lock it. Then, there will be a small strip of steel beside the rollers on the left that you can take off to check the gears. With that many bales, it shouldn't be gone yet unless it was run in a lot of sand. If more than half the thickness of the teeth are gone, replace, otherwise don't worry. if the rollers dont show excessive play, don't worry.

I have a bale command manual and maybe an operators if you need them. I have a 650. They take a little learning.. Dont ever feed them. Jams in the pickup are a real pain. Also, if using twine. Make sure the twine cut properly otherwise when you start baling again it will pull twine into the bale as it spins and you will go through a lot of twine REAL QUICK.

Thanks for the advice. The baler came with the operator manuals for the baler & the bale command monitor. Supposed to have had 4400 bales thru it.I have noticed there is some play in the gears that drive the 3 metal rollers just after the pickup. Anyone know how difficult these are to change? Thanks!

Best tip I can give is to buy an operator's manual for the baler (42064033) and the op manual for the Bale Command (42372400). Second best tip is to fill the sides of the bales well and evenly, the center will take care of itself.

Make sure you get a good wide windrow or weave alot. Don't let the bale get coneshaped or barrell shaped.
