Only took me 2 years to find one. it was a tos up wether I got a NI ground driven spreader or a JD. I really like the design of the NI spreaders but had a hard time finding a good one around here. ( Lots of them in OH though)
So I settled on this one.
John Deere model H. Been in a shed for the last 5 years and they had put a new floor chain on it before they put her up.
Now the poop can fly. good thing too as its getting kind of deep around here.

I have a model H just like it. Got mine all painted up, new tires and the second year I used it while backing it up somehow the feed chain gearbox got hung up and broke off. If you need parts or some BRAND NEW tires with rims, let me know. I am in southern Indiana. Tom

Forget the floor, check the frame. I had one like that and it literally broke in half. Had the same problem with a used Oliver spreader.
The floors were fine, the steel frame was literally eaten up with corrosion.

i have one and need to put the third floor in it since my grandfather bought it new. good spreader but doesnt shred the manure for pasture like a n.i. but still good spreader. Saw a half dozen in ok to great shape get shipped to china but the guy would sell to anyone. Too much trouble he said so about 30 plus spreaders of different makes went to china!

I bet with the price of scrap that will be the fate of alot of our parts machines and even some workers too.

Tell me about this floor replacement. Did he use a new floor from JD or just weld some sheet steel over the old floor?

I would reccommend covering the floor and maybe the sides with some black poly lining that's 1/8-3/8" thick. It'll protect the wood and make it clean out very easily.

I got a sheet 4x8 sheet of 1/8" thick poly from a distributer for less than $50. I think it was $30 if i could find the reciept.

I have been lookin for one here in my area. Seems like a few years ago that they were settin everywhere but now that I want one they have gotten hard to find. I decided that I better come with an alternative to dry fertilizer when I priced some 40-0-6 about a week ago at $670.00 per bulk ton. Just curious as to what these spreaders are selling for in your area. Thanks

It took me 2 years to find this one. Of course they were all over the place when I didnt want one and they were cheap!

All the dealers around have them but they want a arm and a leg for them. The sales i went to they got into bidding wars on the green ones and the others seemed wore out to me. So kept looking.

It is dependent alot on where you are. We have alot of small hobby farms and horsey places so the demand is higher for these little things.

I am sure with this green one if I put a can of green paint and some stickers I could get over $1000 easy for it. Other brands are about 30 to 40 percent less.

now if your in Iowa and there are only bigger farms around. What the heck are they gona do with these little buggers. $200 may be

I was looking over your web site. Nice work on that running gear. I have a 6T Minnesota that I picked up for barter last fall that I"d like to repaint and build a hay rack onto. Do you know what the factory colors approximately are?

All I have seen were red. Close to a NH Red.
As of a couple of years ago. They still made running gear. I had a brocure from them and they were all red.

So it sounds like the 6ton would be orange. It does have a little orange paint on it ... but that could also have been faded red.

????? ?????MN running gears are/were orange. I think the later ones were red, when they painted the gravity boxes red. Do they make anything anymore at Stillwater?

You know what your right. Stupid me, I even have one on my gravity box and its orange. D'oh some times I amaze even me.
I was thinking about the Hay Racks I have seen. Almost all of those were using the lighter running gear. 4 ton. I think those were red.
I must have seen a million Orange 6 ton gears on gravity boxes.

I've got four 6 ton MN gears under bale throw racks and they're all red. I've got one 8 ton that's orange and all of our 10 ton gravity box gears are orange. Not sure if there was a dividing line between 6 and 8 ton but though I'd throw that in for info.

If any of you guys have experience pulling these spreaders down the road. Please fill me in on the proper way of doing it. i will be pulling this one quite a ways to the field and sure dont want to tear it up wile doing it.

Make sure the wheel bearings & hubs are lubricated. And make SURE the cam-follower wheel clears the cam- - -or you might break the cam like I did. I've driven down the road 60 mph with one when everything was adjusted/tied down/etc. and no problem.

Just do not speed and make sure the web drive throws out of gear and the beater drive chain is tight enough that it does not flop down and catch a gear tooth while going down road, make sure you are stoped when putting beaters in gear.
