My father-in-law is giving me a JD steel wheel two bottom plow we're having restored. I have a serial number of 18156. Any ideas on a year or model number? Suggestions where else to search?

Thanks to the many knowledgable individuals who post in these forums. I'm new here and have spent time reading in the John Deere forum and have narrowed it to probably a model 40, possibly a model 44 plow. It does have flat beams. I think my father in law said the 18156 is stamped in one of the beams. It did use a rope mechanism. Any thoughts?

I think the model 40 was a fixed hitch plow made for the Fordson tractor prior to 1938 while the 44 came in late 40's and the beams were the flat steel type while the Fordson plow was forged one piece beams. The 44 is also adjustable for different furrow widths

that must be a part number, they did not have serial numbers

While you are cleaning look on the beams for numbers that Deere stamped in them. It will help a lot more.
