Hi
I have a Bush Hog 8084 mower. I am trying to R&R the right side (might have to do both) gearbox.
I am unable to get the blades and carrierdisk (I don"t know what else to call it, it"s the part the blades are bolted to and hinge on) off in order to get to the bolts that hold the gear box onto the deck. I took the cottered nut off and I am thinking that the blade carrier is rusted to the shaft of the gearbox, that is unless I am doing it wrong and there is another method. I have applied a little heat and a bit of banging through the access hole with no success. I have know started application of rust penetrant.
Any ideas on how to get at those bolts???

i don't like hitting the end of the shaft, but if you must do it leave the nut on but loose. keep as many threads on it as possible. shouldn't the nut be a castle headed nut for a carter pin to go in.

Thanks for the ideas

Can any of you folks who commented on this confirm that the blades do NOT have to come off of the tbar in order for the stumpjumper pan to drop off??? I am wondering if there is something other than rust (a bolt?) holding this together. Maybe something holding the pan on between it and the tbar?

Anyone have a manual or photos I know that is asking alot but trying anyway.
Thanks!

I have had the same problem.I took a porta-power to the shaft with a chain hooked to each side of the stump-jumper ,run the chain under the base of the jack put pressure on the jack then go on top with a big punch, hit the t bar through the hole a few times then rotate it 180 degress's hit it some more. It should come off. Good luck Wildman

I have been hitting on the t bar. The jack and chain is interesting I will have to see if I can get that to work.
Thanks for the ideas, it is good to know I am working in the right direction!

Not familiar with that Bush Hog, but on the 6 footers I had the big nut that holds the stump jumper(the round disk the blades are attached to) has left handed threads. Hope I understood your question and that this helps.

Stump jumper, yeah that"s the name of it, I was forgetting that, Thanks

I did get the nut off with the huge impact driver, it rattled it off with not a lot of effort but some.
Now I just can not get the stump jumper off to access the bolts holding the gear box on.
Any more ideas?

The one I worked on had a tapered shaft. It should come off. In fact, the one I was using lost the nut while in use and the stump jumper dropped right off. Maybe alternate doses of penetrating oil and heat. Don't heat the shaft enough to damage it. This is a BushHog brand isn't it? No experience with other makes.

i don't like to even think about all that stuff coming off when in use. i asked earlier if those nuts aren't castle headed for a ccarter pin to go in. somebody may have changed your nut out and didn't put the right one back in. you need to get a carter pin put in there to keep the thing from coming off. you didn't say but did you not break anything when it came off.

Yes it is a Bush Hog the plate is still on it I can see all of the id marks well.
Tomorrow I will try a bit of heat after it has had the rust penetrator on it for a while.
Thanks I will keep you informed.

Just had the same problem. I turned the brushhog upside down and filled the area around the shaft with penetrating oil and kept hitting the shaft with a hammer with a board on the shaft to protect it. Took two days of doing this a couple times a day but it did come loose.

Okay so I got it fixed. I was not able to get the stump jumper off but with my Father-in-Laws help I was able to replace the 4 bolts.
It now works great.
Thanks for all of your help!
