Once you have the blade holder pan (stumpjumper)retaining nut off the shaft, I thought the same thing, it's on there good, how do you get it off ? If it is anything similar to what is in the photos below, it was as simple as placing a bar over to the bottom of the shaft and prying the pan upward evenly, it has tapered splines. If it is seized on there, penetrating oil, probably can't use heat due to the seal, some kind of vibratory, or impact action might help, but don't mess up the splines or the threads on the shaft for the retaining nut, which when re-assembled, according to the book for mine called for some ridiculous torque, like 400 lbs. I noticed on mine that the c shaped channel attached to the pan, and is what really holds the blades, had some micro fracturing around the welds, I turned up the heat a little and used 7018 5/32 electrodes, 2-3 passes over each existing weld, same amount on each side, just holds the pan, stayed in balance and it's not going to break now, good to look over these kind of mowers, they take an awful amount of abuse, don't want it self destructing and tossing metal parts out. I have found that keeping these properly adjusted to the tractor, sharp and or new blades are worth the cost and time. It makes a big difference in performance and efficiency. While it's upside down, I change the gear box lube as well. ">Link
