Just picked up a 290 planter to use on deer food plots. Two sets of plates were JD and identified as common small corn, 1 12 cells and 1 16.

Another set was green plastic with the numbers B 8 - 24 Lustran. It has 24 cells which are pretty large and it almost looks like a sprocket.

Question is, could this be for soy beans as the JD list shows beans using the higer number of cells. Appreciate any info.

Looks like this should be a fun project getting this old planter operating again.

Your B-8 24 cell is for large round corn. For soybeans, pounds per acre: chart in manual (OM-B1-1258) use plate H1255B 20 cell metal . I don't think Lincoln Ag makes a plastic plate for soy beans.

Went to Lincoln AG site to confirm part #'s.

B-SOY 20 cell (same as Deere 1255)

B-SOY 2 24 cell

B-SOY 3X 32 cell

Don't know concerning present production. However, we used plastic plates for soybeans for many years. Sometimes buckets of plates are sold at consignment farm auctions for not much money. Fewer and fewer in NW Iowa as the years go by, though.

I finally remembered a few plate numbers for the old cast iron JD plates. These are for flat corn kernals and are all 16 cell plates.
697 small flats
694 larger flats
695 larger yet flats
