Fella disk mower?

Does anybody know much about a Fella SM240 disk mower. My favorite dealer has one on the lot. Pulled through his lot this after noon while I was going by and saw it. Looks to be in fair shape and he is not going to want to hold on to it long. It ain't New Holland so the price may be right. It is not on his website, going to call Monday bout price. Been looking for a disk mower at auction and am about to run out of time here. Thanks in advace.

If it is like a vicon I would stay away from it if you have fireants that far north. Down here it doesn't matter how good your curtain is you are going to bath in fireants at some point in the day because it throws the mounds forward when you hit them. I run a new holland 465(kuhn) now and love it compared to the vicon 240's that I used to run. The hay and mounds all go back on this mower. I can't tell any difference in the cut between the mowers either.

I BOUGHT A USED ONE ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO.I USE IT ON MY 485 CASE/IH,WHICH PULLS IT FAIRLY WELL ON MY HILLS.ROSE FARM SUPPLY IN FLEMINGSBURG HAS/CAN GET PARTS.

I bought my Fella mower, old, cheap and very used.
Considing how hard it was beat up before I bought it , it still cuts pretty well, but could explode at any time. Belts are cheap, I bought a set locally for $70. Its all metric, and the previous owner had buggered-up every bolt he could touch.

Lots of my neighbors have Vicons here and they consider this an exact match to theirs, probably made in the same factory.

Tarver has been great for parts, advice, and manuals.

Try and find a Vicon 240 or 281 KM. 3 knives on the heads cut better with less HP than 2. Plus they are tough. The older ones were built like a brick out house. Look at the sheild/cover/sheet metal over the cutter bar for rock dents, lots of them, step away. Cutter heads should rotate about 3/4 of an inch before gears engage next head. Much more than that, lots a gear wear. No rocking or slop in cutter head bearings(2500.00 fix) Good luck

A Fella SM240 is almost exactly a Vicon 240 except it has 2 blade rotors instead of 3 blade rotors. Tarver Sales in Louisiana 985-796-5632 is the USA distributor and has all the parts in stock. Or you can buy Vicon parts.

I have a fella tedder, thanks for the number I had lost it. I did not think parts to be a big problem, always had very good luck with Tarver. I got the tedder at auction, got it cheap and then figured out that there was no dealer close (Bowling Green is closest at 2.5 hour). Just never been around any of there disk mowers.

Thanks. Do you have any good or bad words bout the Vicon? As far as disk mowers go, this is Kuhn (all the colors) country, as far as older ones go.

On the Vicons, they cut very well, generally as fast as you can sit on the tractor assuming you have the horsepower.
I have had a vicon CM240 and a Vicon CM2400. The 240 has a cutter bar made of 2 pieces of pressed steel which you have to take completely apart to work on the gears. bearings or seals. The 2400 has a reinforced cutterbar. Individual cutterheads may be taken out from the top to replace bearings, etc. The top bearing is a sealed bearing, the rest of the bearings run in oil as do the gears.
