Shawn:
Let me know what town you are from.
I am in western NE about once a year (Valentine to Chadron area)and may be able to bring it to that point. If I could find a piece to haul home it would make it a better deal. What do you have to trade?

Mike

Mike, Im in the little town called Arthur, which is about 2 1/2 hours south of Valentine and about the same from Chadron. But if you get out this way, ill figure out a way to make it work. Will meet you somewhere. What are you looking for to trade?

Shawn: Where are you in NE?
I have a model K JD spreader that I would be willing to sell for parts. All of the mechanisms work but I would like to keep the rear wheels for another project.
Let me know and I can send pictures if you are interested.

Thanks!!

Mike

Mike in Iowa, I wouldnt mind having the whole thing but the axle, but im in the western part of the state and this time of year its hard for me to get away. As it is calving season here. So needless to say that im a little busy right now. But if you would be to take off the whole conveyer shaft including the rachet drive I would sure be interested. i would make it worth your time and would pay for shipping too.

Is it worn out, or broken? If worn out, have it lathe-turned to insert a heavy bronze bushing internally--drive fitted. Then reamed to fit the shaft.

the pillar block is broken, and its really not even a pillar block, i dont really know what you would call it because there is no bearing. All it does is hold the shaft in place. It would be an easy fix if it was steel, but it is cast and cant be welded

But doesn't that "pillow block" that is broken support the shaft-and-sprocket that advances the apron? I don't have a JD spreader, but I've had several other brands- -None of them have had "bearings" as such, but the cast "PB" IS the bearing. If you have all the broken pieces, the cast CAN be brazed by an accomplished welder. Another option might be to get a salvaged one. I have an IH PB, but it might be totally different- - - Martin

Try a local bearing supply company. Most areas have companies like this that supply bearings to local industry. I have even purchased apron links from our local bearing supplier (and they were stock items).
