My charts show that number is not for corn. How many cells does your plate have? A picture would help.

The plate has 20 cells. They seem large. 3/4 x 1/2 x 19/32.

"Joe in the snow" might be right as I saw those plates years ago, but never saw any of them used for anything. You can try them with beans and drive across your yard real slow for about 100 ft, then look to see what kind of distribution you got. Nowadays you can sell them at flea markets for "wall decorations" or somesuch...I"ve seen old steel plates sell for $10 that way, what a hoot!

Joe, we still are in the snow too. Haven"t seen lawn since late Nov, but I guess it"s still here in Cent. Wis.

We had a 494A JD planter years ago and used that plate for planting soybeans.

Cells that large mean those plates are not for corn or soybeans. Even a "large round" corn seed does not need a cell that big. The biggest JD steel plate was a 2712 for large rounds. Biggest plastic plate is a BO. Another clue are the 20 cells, JD corn plates were either 16 or 24 cell. I have a feeling that planter was not used in the Midwest...those planters usually were only used for corn or beans. Again, a picture would be great. LA in WI
