I am getting out of the hay business. Just had a few acres and it is less to just bite the bullett and buy what I need for the horses. I'm selling a haybine, wheel rake, and big baler. I have them listed on Craigslist here locally-Des Moines. I had a guy e-mail me and say hw was interested in both the haybaine and rake. He can't come to look at them till the weekend. I have no money in my had and he hasn't looked at them in person-just the pictures I posted. Now Two other guys are interested too. How should I handle this so as not to be a PITA to the first guy and still get my money? I kinda feel that the first guy to hand me the cash gets the toys. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Just want to do right to all concerned. Thanks Skybow

Whoever gives up the cash first gets it. That being said, I will take 1/3 down and hold something for a while for someone. If they come through with the rest in a few weeks (or maybe months if I'm not in a hurry) it's there for them. If they don't come up with the rest in the specified time, I keep the down pymt and resell the piece. Kurt

like they say "money talks, bullsh*t walks", the guy that is interested should know that it may be gone before he has the chance to get there. i would call you before i showed up. he might not call and might not show up. take the money when you can get it.

Depends on what you told him. You should have told him first cash money in your hand gets the sale. You should also have told him to call before the long drive to see if its still available. Tom

If a guy calls and says he's driving over to look at it from 2-3 hours away you hold it until he has a chance to get there. Then if he hasn't shown up in 2-3 hours he's lost out if someone else calls.
If a guy calls and says he wants to see it this weekend you tell him he's welcome to come see it this weekend if it's still available then.

have the understanding up front with anybody who calls that the first man there with the money gets the deal. then there is no misunderstandings. i agree with the guy who said that once you get to a place to buy something more often than not it has been misrepresented. if you had something to sell you aren't going to tell somebody everything thats wrong with it until you get him there or at least that seems to be the therory most salers are working on now. i think they feel like once the guy is there he'll buy it.not saying you are that way and obviously you aren't since your concerned about how to handle this situation.

It does cut both ways. Frankly I just don't bother much with ads any more - stuff is always sold or not as described - from the buyer's perspective.

If someone calls & you say it sells to the first person with cash, fair enough. I'm with you.

But if you set up a deal for someone to look at it 3 days from now & sell it in between, doesn't than make you as bad a fella as those who don't show up???? Same kinda lowlife.....

I'd be a good buyer, but those same attitudes that 'protect' you kinda set you up for only the scum of life to bother buying any more..... I'm kinda tired of it myself.

I understand your side of it too, lot of folks want to waste your time. I know.

"I"d like to have it", "I"ll be there to look at it when my rich uncle gets out of the poorhouse", ect.

Until it"s in the boat, it"s just a fish story.

When someone shows with a fist full of cash, the consider it sold. Until then, unless someone very specifically says they"re on the way from 3 states away, hold it for me until I get there and they give you a specific time when that"ll happen, trust no one. I can"t count the times I"ve heard people tell me they would probably buy something then never show. Nowdays I make it abundantly clear. FIRST COME FIRST SERVED

Son-in-law has a car with bad trans on Craigslist and last fri. a guy called and said he wanted to come see it . It was up on the hill in what I call my parts department so sat. morning we go to get it . It will drive in low so we put the jumper cables on it and fool with it for 1/2 hr. and get it started . had 2 flats we had to blowup . The tires were sunk in and froze to the ground so we hooked the truck up and pulled it out of the holes . Then the car dies and never could get it started again so had to pull it to the house . About a hr.and a half , wind blowing and very cold we got the job done . He calls the guy and he says he will be there in a few hrs. He never showed and wont return calls and I got a dead car in the yard . If someone shows up with money take it !!!

I always sell to the first guy who has cash. There are a lot of folks who say that they want what you have to sell but then don"t follow through.

When using Flakeslist, always get cash up front.
