NH haybine questions

I'm looking at buying a different haybine this year. My 479 has the rubber going bad on the rollers and I have a bearing on the far end of the top roller go bad after about 20 acres of cutting for each of the past 3 years. There is an auction coming up with a 469 and a 499 for sale. I cut about 25 acres per year and can't afford to spend a ton of money. I don't want to go back to a mowing machine either. What can anyone tell me about these machines and what they might sell for. Any weak point in either. Would parts from my 479 work on either. The average age of most of my equipment is 1950,s so I'm not concerned about age - just reliability. Thats why my 479 has to go - its not reliable anymore.

Ran a 469 for years. Good machine. I think the 479 was a simplified 469 in that the 479 had a simpler pto drive train. I think some of the parts are interchangeable but you could check with a NH dealer. Keep wobble box well greased and the drive belt is a pain to change. You probably know this from using the 479.

My dad had a NH 461 and used it on about 30-40 acres a year for about 20 years. Good running machine for as old as it was. 12-15 years ago we were using it and it sheared the shaft off the top roller. We manufactured a new shaft and somehow by the grace of god we got that thing back together true enough that we ran it for another 6 years. The last 2 years were tough. I think we spent more time fixing it than running it. Then the wobble box went out and we sent her down the road.

The 499 is a 12 foot cut with that swings from side to side. I always thought the 9 foot models were better to bale behind as the hay seemed to dry faster. Some of these had bad rubber on the rolls also. Be sure to check closely if you look at it. Otherwise they are a good machine.

We just traded our old 489 haybine in on a new 1411 discbine. Dealer gave us 3000.00 on trade. Rubber was good on rolls, paint was not so good, we had been changing some bearings last year, machine had some acres on it. Grandpa bought that 489 new, i belive in the 80's. Was a good machine, just time for something better for us.... Dont know about parts exchangability of machines.
